TEACHING PLAN / SEMESTER OF COURSE ADMISSIONLENGTH OF TEACHING THROUGH SEMESTERS

Aim/purpose of teaching:

Purpose of lectures and seminars is to introduce course of cariology to the students of the fourth semester.
Students gain knowledge of growth and development of teeth, histology of soft and hard tooth tissues, developmental and morphological anomalies, cariology, and prevention of hard tooth tissue diseases.

Objectives of teaching:

Lectures inform students about basic and recent knowledge about historical, current and future development of cariology: developmental and morphological irregularities of hard tooth tissues, etiology and epidemiology of dental caries, oral microbiological milieu, plaque and dental caries prevention, physical and chemical aspects of dental caries lesion, pathohistological and clinical appearance of dental caries, issues of dental caries in increased risk groups of patients, influence of gravidity on structures of oral cavity.

Purpose of seminars are to prepare students for as much successful practical task performance on the preclinical practical work as it is possible, but also to achieve students' understanding of the basic disease they will face in their everyday practice.
Seminars include following chapters: growth and development of teeth, oral microbiological milieu, histology and chemical composition of hard tooth tissues, dentobacterial plaque, theories on tooth caries onset, microbiology of carious lesion, pathohistological and clinical appearance of caries, immunological aspects of the carious lesion, recent trends in caries prevention, and influence of genetics on caries onset.
